August Classes

Norah's Vintage Afghan, $30
Saturday, August 13th, 10:30-am - 12pm
This month, Bridget will be teaching the third class in her Afghan series based on Norah's Vintage Afghan, a sampler afghan made up of cabled squares. Join us for all the squares or just a few - your choice. Bridget will teach a square each month and you will learn many different cable techniques. You can download the free pattern from Ravelry. We will only print the current square for each class.

Beginner Crochet, $30
Wednesday, August 17th, 1pm - 3pm
Have you always wanted to learn to crochet, or are you a knitter who would like to use crochet stitches to add beautiful edgings and embellishments to your knitted pieces? This class is for you ~ join us to learn something new and fun! Taught by Michele Coker.

Create Your Own Knitting, Crochet or Weaving Class This class is for anyone from the beginner who wants to learn the basics to the advanced student who would like help tackling a specific project. August KAL and CAL

We will continue to welcome those of you who would like to knit the beautiful Cable Car Poncho with Kitty on Tuesdays in August, 10am - 12pm. This poncho will be a terrific addition to your summer wardrobe and is the perfect accessory for those times during the summer when you are a bit chilly indoors.

The Japanese Knot Bag will be our crochet-a-long project again this month. This adorable bag is similar to the popular "Lucy" bag we knit years ago. Suzette will host the CAL on Wednesdays, 1pm - 3pm (beginning on Wednesday July 13th).

Knitting for our Community

We would love for you to join us in our effort to support Miles Perret Cancer Services Center. In anticipation of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, we are now beginning to make "Knitted Knockers" for donation. Come by the shop to see the knitted (or crocheted) breast prosthetic which is knit using Ultra Pima cotton yarn and a size 4 needle.

This is a terrific way to donate your time and talent to our community.

May Classes

Year Long Afghan 2 - Finishing class, $30
Saturday, May 21st, 10:30am - 12:30pm
This class, taught by Bridget Borne, will teach you the proper way to connect your squares. Call the shop to reserve your spot. Squares should be blocked and all ends woven in prior to class.

"Edie" Knitted Tee Class, $30
Tuesday, May 10th, 10:30am - 12:30pm 
Edie, by Isabel Kraemer, is a simple tee with raglan increases which is knit from the top down and is suggested to be knit in a linen sport weight yarn. Skills learned- determining size, swatching, raglan increases, top down sweater knitting. Call to reserve your spot soon.

"Odele", Vee Neck T-Shirt Class, $30
Saturday, May 14th, 1pm - 3pm
Odele, by Amy Christoffers, is your favorite t-shirt all dressed up -  a simple t-shirt with a bit of waist shaping for a flattering fit. We will knit Odele in Berroco's Mykonos yarn. It is important that you come during the first week of May to choose your yarn as we may need to make an order for you. Call to reserve your spot soon.

Note: A followup session will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, 1:00-3:00pm. Linda will be on hand to answer questions on either of these projects. If you want to take this follow-up class, there will be an additional fee of $15/hour.

2016 Shop Hop


We are participating in a Yarn Crawl called the Deep South Shop Hop again this year! If you would like to participate in this fun voyage though six of the South's premier yarn shops, please pick up your "Passport" at Yarn Nook soon. 

If you succeed in visiting all six stores and have your passport stamped at each one, your name will be entered in the Shop Hop prize drawing. At each store you will find project ideas, patterns and special surprises. Last year was very successful for all of us and it gave us the opportunity to meet lots of people from the surrounding areas. 

The Yarn Crawl will take place June 2nd thru July 1st. Participating stores are Yarn Nook, Knits by Nana, The French Knot, McNeedles, the Quarter Stitch, and Mobile Yarn.

There is no Year Long Afghan class this month. If you need a make up class for any of your blocks, let us know. We will offer a final finishing class in May. We would love to see all of your finished afghans.

"Waiting for Rain" Shawl Class, $30 
Saturday, April 16th, 10:30am - 12:30pm 
This beautiful shawl will be a wonderful addition to your wardrobe this spring and summer. Please call the shop to hold your spot with a deposit and get your homework assignment prior to the class. This shawl has a lace short row insert, which is what Bridget would like to focus on in the class. Students should come prepared for that section. If a start-up class is required please let us know. Taught by Bridget Borne.

Lesser Evil Socks, $30
Friday, April 22nd, 1pm - 3pm 
Socks are a great hot weather project - easy to tote and not a lot of yarn on your lap. Join us to learn this fun and interesting way to knit socks! Taught by Suzette Bienvenu.

It's time to finish our afghans - we are almost there! The goal of this square is to learn how to knit in the round and how to knit stranded color work. This class should be very popular and space is limited so please come by soon to pay and reserve your spot.

January & February Knit-a-long

Join us for an exciting Mystery Knit-a-long beginning on Friday, January 8th. Please stop by the shop to purchase your pattern through our ravelry store and to get your first clue. Three subsequent clues will magically appear in your Ravelry library every Friday thereafter. You will receive an email and ravelry message notification each time a new clue is ready and at the end of the knit-a-long you will have created a warm, cozy shawl.

The final measurement for the semi-circular shawl will be 28" deep with a wingspan measuring 60". The finished shawl will be a wearable art piece full of textured cables, knitted leaves and lace.
