A Season of Change at Yarn Nook!

Here's a note from Kim Gunniss, owner of Yarn Nook:
Dear Yarn Nook Family,
It's official! I am sure many of you have heard the Yarn Nook now has two new owners. Kitty Longman and Suzete Bienvenu have partnered with me to continue my dream of making the Yarn Nook the best little yarn shop in Louisiana. This will allow us to extend our hours, add more classes and increase our inventory. Please be patient with us as we implement changes we feel are necessary to make Yarn Nook the best that it can be. We will continue to provide the large seating area for everyone to gather for classes, for help and just to enjoy each other. We want everyone to feel comfortable and welcome in our Yarn Nook home.
~Kim

Kim, Kitty and Suzette are offering a great coupon to celebrate their partnership. Print the coupon found here to receive $10 off any purchase of $50 or more through December 31, 2009. (Coupon must be presented at time of purchase to receive the discount.)

The new Yarn Nook hours will be as follows (beginning Tuesday, November 8th)
Tuesday, 10am - 6pm
Wednesday, 10am - 8pm (Sit & Stitch 6pm - 8pm)
Thursday, 10am - 6pm
Friday, 10am - 4pm
Saturday, 10am - 4pm

Kim will be working Tuesday through Thursday, Kitty on Friday, and the three of them will take turns working on Saturdays. Due to the increased activity at the shop, please consider calling ahead if you are coming specifically to get help on a project. We want to make sure to devote the necessary time to helping you.

Project Helmetliner Update

As you may know, Yarn Nook’s Project Helmetliner was featured on KATC TV3’s evening news on Tuesday night. Here is a link to the news story on KATC’s website, just in case you missed it. Since the story aired, we have had a tremendous response from the people of Acadiana. Many people have come by the shop to learn to knit just so they can knit helmetliners, and others have called or come by to lend support and to make monetary donations. Because of this, we have formed a non-profit organization, Project Helmet Inc., which is a separate entity from Yarn Nook and will allow us to collect donations that are tax deductible. The money collected will be used to pay for the yarn necessary to knit the helmetliners, and volunteer Yarn Nookers will knit them for the troops. To donate to this great cause, you may come by the shop or send your donation to:
Project Helmet
321 Oil Center Dr.
Lafayette, LA 70503

Don’t forget that The Daily Advertiser will be running an article about the project in the paper on Monday. Also, Kim and Pam will appear on KLFY TV10’s Passe Partout on Friday Morning!

We are so proud of all of you who have worked on helmetliners with us. We urge anyone who is willing to donate their time to this worthwhile project to please come by the shop to pick out their yarn today! We have tweaked the original Helmetliner pattern provided by CitizenSam ~ click here to request a copy of our revised instructions.

New arrivals

Yarn Nook is expecting lots of new arrivals this month. A large selection of Addi Turbo needles and more Addi Clicks interchangeable sets should arrive on Wednesday, November 9th. We have ordered lots of new yarns and new colors of yarns from lines we currently carry as well as yarn from several new lines ~ our UPS man will be extra busy for the next few weeks!

Trunk Show

On Wednesday, November 11th, Yarn Nook will host a Trunk Show featuring Schaefer Yarn Company yarns from 3pm to 6pm. Come by to see what Shaefer has to offer and stay for Sit & Stitch from 6pm to 8pm.

November Classes & Workshops

This month, our focus is on knitting Helmetliners for our troops. Because of this, we will not have any scheduled workshops. As always, if there is a class that you would like to take or a specific technique you would like to learn, you are welcome to call the shop or stop by to schedule an individual class at your leisure. If you are able, we ask that you volunteer to spend some time at the shop knitting a helmetliner with us and/or helping others to knit a helmetliner.
